Jasper and Mattie Morgan
Jasper Morgan, Brielle's first black entrepreneur, was one of the 5 children of Indiana and Robert Morgan. He was born in Rice, Virginia, on August 27, 1870.
Thomas Laws
Thomas Laws, the first black landowner in Brielle, was born in Glouster County Virginia, in 1867, the youngest of ten children. As a small boy, Thomas loved to play down at the docks
Maude Goode Moon
Maude Goode Moon, born in Luray, Virginia in 1887, worked for a doctor in Luray for many years before moving to Brielle in 1924.
Corbett Harvey
Harvey, born in 1896 in Rice, Virginia was brought to Manasquan by his brother, Frank Harvey, Sr., in 1913.
Leroy Mack
Leroy K. Mack, the first Brielle Board of Education Member, arrived in Asbury Park, NJ , from Blacksville, South Carolina, in May, 1931. His first job was as a chef for the Bite Shop in Brielle, NJ, where he he worked until 1937.
Alfred Oscar Kenney
Alfred O. Kenney Sr., also known as "Gilly," was a lifelong resident of Brielle, NJ, and a former Brielle Police Chief. He passed away on February 5, 2015, at the age of 79.
Carl T. J. Foster
Frank Harvey Sr.
Frank Harvey, Sr was born December 22, 1890 to Cornelia and Edward Harvey in Rice Virginia. He attended grammar school in Rice. At the age of 18, he left Virginia at the invitation of his sister Mattie Morgan.
Russell D. Stewart
Russell D. Stewart, who passed away on March 20, 2023, at the age of 92, was a longtime resident of Brielle, NJ.
