BRIELLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HISTORICAL TIMELINE

1825    First school was built in 1825, near the northwest corner of current-day Riverview Drive and Route 70
The school was actually located in Wall Township, but within a few feet of present-day Brielle
School had one room, and
Bemjamin Pearce was the first schoolmaster
Fire destroyed the school building in 1840
1840The original school building was replaced after the fire with a similar structure on the same site
This new building quickly became too small to handle the student enrollment
1856Second school was built in 1856 on Schoolhouse Road with two rooms
Schoolhouse Road was gravel at the time, so the school was nicknamed “Gravel Hill Academy”
The materials to build the school were purchased from Haynes Drummond Co. for $141.25
When the new school was built in 1919, the old school building was moved to Rankin Farm on Rankin Road and used a barn

1919Third school was the current Municipal Building on Union Lane and was built in 1919
1954Fourth and current school was built on Union Lane in 1954, and has been greatly expanded over the years
