ULHS’s COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Program Committee
    • Set meeting schedule for the year
    • Secure the locations for the Society’s various meetings
    • Finalize the Agenda for the Society’s meetings
    • Organize and coordinate all activities for ULHS’s meetings
    • Identify and manage speakers for ULHS’s meetings
  • Special Events Committee
    • Provide oversight the Society’s three current Special Events: Brielle Day, 9-11 Ceremony and Archive Day
    • Develop a list of potential Special Events; update annually
    • Every year, lead a process that prioritizes the Society’s potential Special Events and that selects the event that will be the Society’s focus for the upcoming current year
    • Coordinate Library presentations
    • Coordinate ULHS Exhibits and Displays
    • Fundraising activities
  • Technology Committee
    • Responsible for managing the Society’s:
      • Website
      • Facebook page
      • Instagram page
      • Google Drive
    • TBD
  • Publicity Committee
    • Responsible for the Society’s publicity for the following activities:
      • ULHS’s Annual and General meetings
      • ULHS’s current and future special events
      • All other Society activities
    • Responsible for liaising with:
      • Coast Star
      • Key Brielle organizations (E.g., Library, Elementary School, Garden & Womens Clubs, etc.)
      • Facebook and Instagram pages
      • Other local historical societies
      • Other potential publicity outlets
  • Creative Committee
    • Develop the creative content for the Society’s meetings, special events, publications and all other Society activities
    • Identifying and creating displays and exhibits for the Society’s activities
    • Developing artwork and formats for the Society’s exhibits, displays, publications, etc.
    • Identify photos and “articles” to post to Facebook, etc.
    • Develop and post new content for electronic platforms
    • Develop standardized templates/formats for displays, etc.
    • Identifying/designing items to sell, and where to sell these items
    • Liaise with youth organizations
  • Membership Committee
    • Responsible for mailing the annual membership dues notice and all follow-up notices
    • Responsible for all follow-up needed regarding dues collection
    • Responsible for current and new member communications
    • Responsible for maintaining the Society’s membership file
    • Responsible for mailing ULHS’s newsletter and any other Society publications to the membership
    • Responsible for communications to ULHS’s membership on as needed basis
    • Responsible for new member recruiting strategy and tactics
  • Publication Committee
    • Responsible for the design of the Society’s newsletter
    • Responsible for the developing the content for each issue of the newsletter
    • Responsible for the printing of the Society’s newsletter and any other Society publications
    • Responsible for identifying other potential ULHS publications
  • Finance Committee
    • Provide financial oversight (spending, cash flow, etc.) to the Society
    • Distribute financial reports at all ULHS Board meetings
    • Manage bank accounts and related banking activities
    • Manage all disbursements (check book and credit card)
    • Collect and deposit funds from membership dues and any other fundraising event
    • Maintain financial records and retain appropriate documentation for all receipts and disbursements
    • File required financial reports (E.g., IRS, State of NJ, etc.)
    • Manage insurance policies
    • Propose potential investments, evaluate major potential expenditures, notify the Board of potential financial risks, etc.
    • Ensure that all the Society’s financial policies and operational procedures are followed
    • Liaise with person conducting the Society’s annual audit
  • Nominating Committee
    • Recommend the new slate of Officers and Directors to the ULHS Board for its review and potential approval
