Life was difficult for Frank when he first arrived in Manasquan, NJ. Since he was skilled in constructing buggies, he would buy parts of old buggies and with these various parts he would rebuild buggies to look like new. Frank would then ship them to Virginia to be sold, using the profits from the sales to buy more parts. Soon Frank was shipping the buggies by freight train. Frank was so successful in the buggie business that he made enough money to buy a team of horses. Mr. Poland of the Poland Excavation Company hired Frank to help move sand from the Manasquan beach. Later Frank went into business for himself, conducting the business from his home.
In 1915, he married Mamie Morris, who was the daughter of the Rev. P.. T. Morris of Belmar, N.J. They had one son, Frank, Jr.
Frank Harvey, Sr. retired in 1969.
